The Fulton Armory FAR-308 rifle is our name for Stoner’s .308 based AR-10 revolution, the bigger brother of the rifle that has served longer, and in more forms, than any other issue martial arm on earth. But it was the genius of Eugene Morrison Stoner and his visionary application of the direct impingement gas system that truly revolutionized small arms design. Unlike conventional gas-operated firearms, direct impingement does away with a separate gas cylinder, gas piston, and operating rod assembly. Gasses act directly upon the bolt and carrier thereby saving weight and reducing complexity, cost, and number of part replacements.
Original USGI AR-10 receivers or parts have never been available to the U.S. commercial market due to its extreme rarity and “machinegun” status. Today, both semi-auto AR-10 type receivers and parts are available from a variety of commercial sources with varying degrees of interchangeability, dimensional fidelity, durability and safety. Like most things not all AR-10’s are created equal.
Sadly, some AR-10 type rifle designs, uppers, receivers, parts and magazines are not interchangeable with other manufacturers, greatly diminishing one of the greatest benefits of the AR platform-it’s interchangeability.
